Futureintech Facilitators form links between schools and industry

Who are Futureintech Facilitators?

Our Facilitators bring technologists, engineers and scientists into schools to act as Ambassadors for their industry and enhance learning in Maths, Science, Technology and Careers classes.

They are knowledgeable professionals who understand how schools work and who have a network of support from local industries, including software development companies, food and electronics manufacturers, electricity lines companies, Crown Research Institutes, and engineering, surveying and geospatial consultancies.

Facilitators work with schools in most parts of New Zealand, including Northland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu and Canterbury regions as well as main urban centres.

What do our Facilitators do?

The role of Futureintech's Facilitators is to:

  • Recruit suitable people who are already working in the technology, engineering and science-based industries to become Ambassadors.
  • Work with teachers and careers advisers to identify opportunities for Ambassadors to enhance Maths, Science, Technology or Careers programmes.
  • Coach Ambassadors to share their stories in a way that engages and inspires students.
  • Prepare Ambassadors so that they are able to provide real-life examples that relate to specific school curriculum areas.
  • Find mentors for students participating in project-based programmes such as the Transpower Neighbourhood Engineers Awards and the NZIFST/CREST Student Product Development Challenge.
  • Provide information about career opportunities in technology, engineering and science.

Futureintech is an initiative of Engineering New Zealand, funded by Callaghan Innovation
