Diploma in Information Technology

Diploma in Information Technology

There are many different diplomas in Information Systems, Information Technology, Systems Administration, Software Development and Web Design & Development on offer. You can study towards a diploma in at least one of these areas at most polytechs and at some universities and private training providers.

Diplomas in Information Technology and related areas are entry-level qualifications for work in the IT industry, generally taking a year's study for a Level 5 and two years for Level 6 diploma (although this varies).

You may be able to convert a Level 6 diploma into a Bachelor of Information Technology with an extra year’s study.

Typically offering a mix of classes and hands-on learning experiences, these diplomas are tailored to industry requirements and can involve work placements. It may also be possible to complete industry certifications [exams set by specific software or systems providers].

If you already have a degree in another area but want to retrain for work in the IT industry, you might want to do a graduate diploma instead.

What jobs can I do?

After completing a diploma in Information Technology, you'll have practical expertise in a range of information and communications technologies suitable for work as a helpdesk operator, computer technician or entry-level programmer or web developer.
